“Government Supporters Shy And Diffident”
“Our sort of people,” said the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) speaking to a National Party meeting, “don’t like getting out in controversy. There are plenty prepared to put the left wing point of view, but not many prepared to publicly support the Government point of view."
Mr Shand was speaking at the annual meeting last evening of the National Partv’s Canterburv-Westland divisional committee on a remit which urged the Government
to improve public relations either by more press statements or through radio and television.
“Our people feel shy and diffident,” said Mr Shand, “and our view is often lost because there is no-one to discuss it, although there are always plenty of left wings.” He said that when someone was prepared to publicly discuss the National Party viewpoint. it was often a person who did not know hiS subject.
