ESTUARY MODEL

Wallingford Work

The Hydraulics Research Station at Wallingford has completed its model of the Estuary and it is being operated with tides, waves and littoral currents, the Christchurch Drainage Board was advised last evening. A letter from the consult ing engineers, H. G Royds and Sutherland, said they had been able to supply all the information required by the research station so far Five automatic water level recorders were installed. The steel case of the one at the Bridge street bridge was broken into and the instruments stolen by vandals in February, and this had caused a setback.

While the greater part of their work for Wallingford was done, they might have to wait an indefinite time for the extensive observations needed during a period of high flood. Wallingford estimated the total time for the investigation at two years and a half from March, 1964. and the consulting engineers were hopeful that this programme could be accomplished.
