Bunting At Ball
Bunting in the school colours of red, black and white, school crests, balloons and flowers, decorated the Winter Garden for the annual ball of the Christchurch West Old Pupils’ Association. Black bottles, draped with red ribbon and holding white candles, stood on the supper tables.
Specially invited guests were the patron and headmaster, Mr T. R. Richards and Mrs Richards: the president of the association, Mr E. McNaughton, and Mrs McNaughton; the vice-president, Mrs R. G. Thomson, and Mr Thomson; and representatives of kindred associations. Mrs Richards wore a fulllength sheath gown of goldembossed brocade, designed with a formal peg top. Mrs McNaughton chose a gown of blue and flame continental silk, with a gold over pattern. It featured a sleeveless, fitting bodice, and box pleats at the back of the floor-length skirt. White and silver embroidered brocade was chosen by Mrs Thomson. The fitting bodice and shoulder straps of her gown were covered with mother of pearl sequins. The long sheath skirt was finished with a Dior rose at the back waistline.
Members of the bail committee were Mrs P. Bowen, Messrs E. McNaughton, J. Dykes, R. Burness, M. Richards and G. Fricker.
