AKAROA OCEAN YACHT RACE

A N ocean yacht race, between Wellington and Akaroa, is at present being arranged by the Akaroa Cruising Club for January, 1966. It is intended that this race, sponsored by a manufacturing firm, should be held every three years. It is hoped that the WellingtonAkaroa race will provide a good try-out for yachtsmen intending to compete in longer races and will boost yachting in Canterbury. The safety regulations adopted by the club are to ensure that competing yachts are of a standard

commensurate with that set by the Onerahi and Royal Akarana Yacht Clubs for their Noumea races. The Akaroa Cruising Club is being assisted by the Banks Peninsula Cruising. Club and the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. A permanent sterling silver trophy, which, it is proposed, should represent a two-masted yacht in full sail, will be for competition and the first four placegetters will gain cash prizes. The first two place-getters will recieve cups which they will retain.
