Alvean Could Gain Overdue Win Tonight

Alvean should gain an overdue win at the Wellington Trotting Club’s winter meeting, which opens at Hutt Park Raceway this evening. The Johnny Globe mare has been placed in 10 of her 16 starts this season and she is long overdue for an outright win.

Alvean's most recent placing was at Forbury Park last Saturday when she beat all but the outstanding three-year-old, Marshella. She will again have Marshella as one of her rivals tonight, but meet her on 24 yards more favourable terms over an extra furlong. Alvean is most reliable and should be prominent all the way. Marshella won easily at Forbury last Saturday, but broke more than once and lost all chance on Tuesday. If she goes north she could extend Alvean. Celebre has been a consistent place-getter in recent weeks and he will be strongly supported. He will be bracketed with Moon Boy’s brother. Jubilee .and Captain Worth, two capable trotters when caught at their best. Highland Hame, Raevon and Scotch Grattan are others expected to race well. The double will be run on the J. E. August Memorial i Handicap and the Pacific Handicap. . - . Fair weather is forecast and i the track should be fast-
