‘Rate Does Not Meet Needs’ (N.Z. Press Association)* AUCKLAND, May 7. Wellington was the only city where the rate of house building had not met the heeds of the area’s growing population, .the Minister of Housing (Mr Rae) said at the presentation of awards to the building and applied arts department of the Auckland Technical Institute. Mr Rae said that the longstanding backlog had virtually disappeared in all cities with the “notable exception of Wellington. “Almost one third of the urgent applications for State housing are in the Wellington district and this has been the case for several years,” he said.
