BRANCH RAILWAY LINE COMES UP.—This special hydraulic jack makes light work of lifting the rails on the branch railway line from Kaiapoi to Wetheral, near Ohoka. A part of the former West Eyreton line from Kaiapoi, the line joined that from Rangiora to Oxford at Bennetts. When the rest of the West Eyreton loop was pulled up several years ago, a length of about three miles was left at the Kaiapoi end to serve the flour mill at Wetheral. This last section is being retrieved, and some of the lines will be used as buffer rails in railway installations at Lyttelton.
