CAPTAIN AGAIN ?
TT appears likely that the x very experienced Y.M.C.A. player, R. Entwistle, will be first choice as captain of this season’s Canterbury men’s basketball representative side. When the side’s regular captain, W. E. Smith, moved to Auckland last year, Entwistle, a representative of long standing, took on the job of leading the team. Smith has since returned to Christchurch but is unavailable for representative selection. leaving Entwistle as the leading candidate for the position. So far this season, Entwistle has not been reaching the outstanding form he showed last season when he was the only Canterbury representative chosen for the South Island team at the national tournament. His under arm shooting has been well guarded down by the opposition and he has not shown his usual determination to go for the basket. However, he is a player of vast knowledge and his return to form is taken for granted. He began his basketball career at a very early age, winning his first Canterbury representative colours when only 18. Excluding a temporary withdrawal for two years, this season will be his tenth season in
succession as a Canterbury representative. In spite of his somewhat indifferent form (only in
comparison to past years), Entwistle is still one of the leading scorers. In five games so far he has scored 40 points.
