Son Of Limavady
The Limavady Urban Council in Ulster plans to erect a plaque to one of the town’s most distinguished sons. He is William Ferguson Massey, who was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1912 to 1925. Mr Massey was born in Irish Green street, Limavady, County Londonderry, on May 29, 1856. His home no longer exists but the urban council, at the suggestion of the Ulster-Scot Historical Society, will erect a plaque near the house where he was born. Mr Massey was one of two Ulstermen who became Prime Minister of New Zealand. The other was John Ballance, who was born in Glenavy, County Antrim. Limavady is a prosi perous market town on the I banks of the River Roe.
