M.U. Festival In Ashburton

Compassion, in relation to the needs of poverty stricken countries, was the theme of an address given by Archdeacon H. G. Norris at the annual ruridecanal festival of Mid-Canterbury Mothers’ Unions and Young Wives, held recently in St. Stephen’s Church, Ashburton. Those attending the festival included members from Christchurch, Timaru, Hinds, Methven, Rakaia, and Tinwald, and guests from Picton and London. They were welcomed by Archdeacon Norris, who was also the celebrant at a service of Holy Communion, assisted by the Rev. T. Jackson. Greetings to those attending the festival were given by the Christchurch Diocesan president of M.U. (Mrs W. A. Pierre) and the presiding member for the South Canterbury archdeaconry (Mrs R. E. Zwimper). Mrs H. F. Burdett, presiding member for Mid-Canterbury ruridecanal, thanked all who had helped prepare for the festival. Lunch was served by committee members of St Stephen’s branch, and afternoon tea by Tinwald members.
