AUST. PAPER SALES

High Level In March Quarter Sales of Australian Paper Manufacturers. Ltd.. continued at a high level during the March quarter, and for that period and for nine months showed Increases on the corresponding periods of the previous financial year. Directors say this in a third quarterly report to shareholders. The compainy is maintaining a satisfactory share of an increasing market against local competition and imports, they say. The company will not join Australian Pulp and Paper Mills, Ltd., in seeking a further Tariff Board review of the industry. A.P.P.M. is seeking the review because of increased import competition. However, A.P.M. would become involved if the terms of reference made by the Minister for Trade and industry required all sections of the industry to be reviewed The Gippsland fires early in March caused relatively little damage to the company’s forests, and only about 800 of its 40,000 acres of pine plantations were lost. The damage was covered by insurance.
