CHILEAN COPPER

Rise Of £8 A Ton (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SANTIAGO, May 2. Chile yesterday increased its export price for copper by one cent per pound and £8 per long ton. The new prices are 36 cents per pound and £2BB per long ton. The Chile copper department said that the price rise came after a study which showed a continuing scarcity of copper stocks in the hands of big producers. New Price’s Market The new price would apply to all markets “where we are currently selling at the producers’ price.” The decision has been taken on a “provisional” basis “while we study the evolution of conditions on the world market, and the advisability of making new adjustments as soon as circumstances support this,” the department said.
