FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—The southerly airstream over New Zealand is weakening slowly as an anti-cyclone in the central Tasman Sea approaches the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate south-westerlies becoming variable late in the day; mainly fine apart from a few scattered showers this morning; cold. Nelson and central Marlborough.—Moderate to easterly winds; fine and cold. Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura coast.— strong southerlies decreasing gradually; further showers but lighter and less frequent today; cold. Buller and Westland.—Moderate, variable winds; fine with moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook for all districts: mainly fine. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
