Six-Length Win At Caulfield (N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) MELBOURNE. The two-year-old Summertime colt, Summer Haze, stamped himself as one of the top Victorian colts with a smashing six lengths win at the Caulfield meeting on Saturday. Summer Haze, bought at the Trentham sales, cost 5000gns landed in Australia. His stake yesterday was worth £lO5O. The win gave his jockey, A. Burton, his 1000th winning ride. Burton won his first race as an apprentice in 1946. Since then he had ridden with success in all States of Australia, the United States, and Malaya. The winner of the Second Balwyn Handicap was another Trent ham-purchased horse. Courtier. A gelding by Final Court from Scalene. Courtier was almost as impressive a winner as Summer Haze. Like Summer Haze. Courtier was trained by B. Conaghan and ridden by Burton. Courtier at one stage was at-wide odds. but went out at second favourite at 7/2. He made his final burst down the outside of the field to win impressively.
