Four Week-End Road Deaths

Three men, one a naval officer, another a consular agent for Italy, and one woman, were killed in week-end road accidents. As well, two were badly hurt.

A truck driver from Erua, near National Park, was found dead in the crushed cab of an overturned frontend loader in a small stream about 15 miles east of national park on Saturday afternoon, according to the Press Association. He was Ngaoti Reihana Tipene, aged 42, married with no children. Mr Tipene was employed by K. H. Parrant and Company, Ltd., National Park. He was driving from the company's quarry along a private road towards Taurewa settlement when the machine left the road at a bridge, and rolled over a 10-foot bank, pinning him. There was about three feet of water in the creek. Mr Tipene was found about 5 p.m., about three hours after the accident is thought to have occurred. Critically 11l A youth is still critically ill in Auckland hospital today after a motor-cycle hit the kerb on College Hill. Ponsonby, on Friday night. Consul Killed The honorary consular agent for Italy in Auckland died today after a car in which he was travelling failed to negotiate a bend a mile north of Parakai, Helensville, on the South Head road. Badly Hurt An Ohura farmer, Frederick Aichison, suffered serious injuries on Saturday morning when his three-ton truck, which was being towed, left Mangakara road, three miles from Ohura. The truck got out of control and plunged over the bank into a stream. Mr Aichison was thrown out of the open door of the truck. He was taken to the Taumarunui Hospital by the Ohura ambulance and was still unconscious on arrival. Naval Officer Dies A naval officer died on the way to North Shore Hospital last evening from injuries suffered when a car and a truck collided on the main road at Orewa. He was Morgan Edward Buchanan, a lieutenant-commander, aged 40, of 2 Eastcliffe road, Castor Bay. His daughter, Janis Buchanan, aged 11, was admitted to the hospital for observation. The others in the car, Mrs Patricia Hunt, aged 30, of 64 Castor Bay road, and John Buchanan, aged 14. were treated and sent home. The driver of the truck was unhurt. Nurse’s Death

She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs N. L. Stewart, of 47 Commerce street, Frankton.

Her younger sister. Prudence Stewart, was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, but no report was available on her condition last night.
