ANIMAL CONTROL
Scheme For Fiordland fN.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 2. The New Zealand Forest Service had prepared an animal control plan for the Fiordland National Park Board, its chairman, Mr W. A. Bowick, told the annual meeting in Invercargill yesterday. “This will be discussed with interested parties before it will be implemented in full,” said Mr Bowick. “The non-controversial parts of the plan involving some animal operations and the fixing of fixed camera stations and exclusion plots was authorised by the board and work commenced during the year,” he said.
Earlier in his report, Mr Bowick said the board still had a problem with deer, chamois and pigs in the park. Mr J. H. McKenzie said from his experience over the last 20 years there had been a massive fallout of deer. “I would say the number of deer has fallen by a great degree,” he said.
Mr McKenzie objected to the inference some people gave that the deer population was increasing. I
