To Command Rhine Army
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright > LONDON, April 29. Australian-born LieutenantGeneral Sir John Hackett was today appointed Commander-in-Chief of the British Army of the Rhine. General Hackett, who is 54. was responsible for and christened, “Popski’s Private Army,” a long-range desert intruder formation which operated behind the German lines in North Africa and Italy during the last war.
