SAFE RECOVERED
Christchurch detectives recovered from a drain at Kirwee on Friday this safe, stolen from a Leeston garage last week-end. The door of the safe had been wrenched open, and most of the £BOO it contained was missing. Several sodden cheques were found in the water near the safe. When stolen, the
safe contained £5BO in cheques and £192 in cash. A farmer found the safe in a drain by Norwoods road, Kirwee. Thieves used a 10-ton hydraulic jack to wrench the safe from its concrete base in the office of Bayliss Brothers’ service station. Police inquiries are continuing.
