SUKARNO’S SONG
‘I Won’t Go To Tokyo’ (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) DJAKATA, May 2. President Sukarno chose today to sing an announcement that he would not participate in peace talks with the Malaysian Prime Minister (Tunku Abdul Rahman). Japanese diplomats, after several weeks’ work toward a Malaysian-Indonesian summit meeting in Tokyo this month, had announced that the Tunku would attend and President Sukarno had given tentative approval. But President Sukarno squelched the preparations as he appeared before a May Day rally in Djakarta Sports Hall today. “Who says I want to go to Tokyo ... I am happier to stay with my people,” Dr. Sukarno sang, adapting his words to a popular Indonesian tune.
