HOPE OF BAR IMPROVING

Good Fresh In Buller River (From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, May 2. With a good run in the Buller river today following fairly consistent rain in the last two days, there are hopes for an improved depth on the Westport bar. This evening three vessels the Kaitawa, the Puriri and the gypsum laden Westport, were sailing close to the port awaiting admission. The Kaitawa, the first of the heavier colliers to attempt a loading at Westport for three weeks, is scheduled to take coal to Portland and Auckland, and the Puriri will load coal fbr Tarakohe. The Kaitawa has been in the roadstead for three days, and the Westport, after cruising off Westport since Friday, had to put in to Nelson for supplies after the long journey from South Australia. The cement ship Guardian Carrier, held up at Westport for a fortnight, is carrying a half load to Onehunga and may sail today.
