Box 318, NAPIER. 2964 RESIDENT MEDICAL PRACTITIONER MATAHINA POWER PROJECT TE MAHOE CONSTRUCTION TOWNSHIP THE Ministry of Works invites applications from Registered Medical Practitioners to take up the position of official Resident Medical Practitioner at Te Mahoe. This is a private practice with a guaranteed minimum remuneration of £2380 per annum from the Social Security Fund for General Medical Services. In addition this Income may be augmented by claims under the Workers’ Compensation Act, by additional charges to patients and, if desired, by means of a dispensing contract. A three-bed-room, all-electric house plus surgery and garage is available free of charge. Te Mahoe is the township established in connection with construction of the Matahina power Project. It is centrally situated in a pleasant rural area 19 miles from Whakatane (nearest public and maternity hospitals): it enjoys an excellent climate and is provided with many amenities Including shopping and recreational facilities, an ambulance, large primary school and bus service to Edgecumbe College, 12 miles distant. The present population of Te Mahoe township Is about 1706 and with about a further 1600 in the adjacent areas of Te Teko and Waiohou, a total population of some 3300 will be served by this medical practice. No major fluctuation of these numbers is expected until mid 1966 when there will be a gradual decrease until mid 1967 when construction work is expected to be completed.
