LADY SARAH, 1, FASHION-SETTER

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

LONDON, April 30.

Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones may set the fashion of the year at her first birthday celebrations tomorrow, United Press International reported.

London dressmakers and society are waiting eagerly to see what she wears, for a girl with such looks—great violet-blue eyes, dark brown hair and creamy complexion —is a natural fashion-setter.

Her styles have been copied ever since the day she was born—on May Day one year ago.

Her elegant mother, Princess Margaret, has made her Britain’s best-dressed baby. Hundreds of tiny girls now wear bonnets like Sarah’s, made of rows of finest lace

frilling and tied with a broad bow.

Wealthy mothers have ordered exact copies of her white satin coats, which have no trimmings except pearl buttons. More economy-mind-ed mothers have compromised with nylon crepe and white bone. Sarah is a small child and already has a vividly compelling personality. She strongly resembles Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, her grandmother, in both features and colouring.

She is seventh in line to the throne. She derives her honorary title from the fact that her father is an Earl. The Queen, Lord Snowdon’s sister-in-law, made him one in 1961.

Lady Sarah would otherwise have been plain “Miss Jones,” because she inherits no title from her Royal mother.
