Fee For Airport Taxis
Sir, —I read with disgust that the Christchurch City Council intends to impose a charge on the drivers of Christchurch taxis by expecting them to pay £2 10s per annum for the use of the Christchurch International Airport. This charge will presumably be passed on in some way to the constant travellers and general public who use the taxi service in and out of the airport. What a wonderful way to encourage tourists and businessmen to our city. Thousands of pounds have been spent and are still being spent on improving facilities at the airport to achieve this purpose and I think the latest move by the City Council is a pinpricking attempt to antagonise the drivers of Christchurch taxis who are at present giving a wonderful and courteous service comparable with that at any international airport.— Yours, etc., EXECUTIVE AIR TRAVELLER April 29, 1965.
