TIMBERYARD WORKERS
Women Are Welcome (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, April 29. Something of a petticoat revolution is taking place in the Western Australian timber industry. Over the last several months women have been penetrating the mills and yards to do light, routine work on which boys were formerly engaged. The result is a calm and constant output unparalleled in the history of the industry. The mill manager, Mr Wally Evans, said a newly appointed team of women, two of them grandmothers, had revolutionised the production of fruit cases in his mill. “Unlike some of the young girls of today, they get on with the job and don’t skylark with the blokes,” he said. The women did not appear to be upset by the constant noise and whine of machinery, Mr Evans said.
