PINUS WOOD
Manifold Usage New Zealand has some 1,000,000 acres of exotic pine forests, half of which are owned by the State and the remainder by private companies. Now that New Zealand pine forests have reached maturity, the threatened wood famine has disappeared for ever. The selfregenerating pine gives enough timber for domestic use and a surplus for export as well. More recently it has been discovered that the Pinus Radiata tree not only provides useful timber, but it is excellent for pulping as well. It makes reliable fibre building board and it is the basic raw material for New Zealand’s greatest new enterprise—the pulp and paper industry.
