FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A strong disturbed south-westerly airstream flows over New Zealand. Forecast:

Canterbury —West to south-west winds, fresh at times; showers in the high country and about Banks Peninsula; some scattered showers elsewhere this morning, fine later; cold with some snow on the mountains. Outlook: cool south-westerlies.

Buller and Westland.—Fresh south-west winds, strong in exposed places; cool and changeable ‘with showery periods, considerable fair intervals later. Outlook: south-westerlies with showers.

Nelson and Marlborough.—South-west winds, fresh to strong at times; some scattered showers about the high country and on the Kaikoura coast this morning: otherwise fine; cold. Outlook: cool south-westerlies with showers.
