TRUCKS TO CARS
Truck makers often say In jest that innovations oh the truck of today will appear oh the car of tomorrow. In many ways th'ey are correct. Power steering was first used on an American steampowered truck in 1876, according to a French trade journal. By the 1930’s several truck makers were offering power steering.
Air cleaners also were originally fitted to trucks, being developed for the arduous and dusty conditions these vehicles experienced. Limited slip differentials also started in the heavy vehicles, and other devices which were first used on trucks include turn indicators, crankcase ventilation systems, and alternators.
