The Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) will arrive in Christchurch on Monday afternoon and will preside at the opening of the Supreme Court criminal sessions on Tuesday. He will sit in Christchurch for the following two weeks.

Dr. W. P. Holloway has been promoted to senior registrar, North Canterbury Hospital Board. Mr M. von Tunzelman, formerly accountant to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, has taken up his duties as secretary to the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority. Dr. W. I. Paterson has been appointed acting medical sup-erintendent-in-chief to the North Canterbury Hospital Board during the absence overseas of Dr. L. McH. Berry. The Canterbury Education Board yesterday accepted with regret the resignation of its assistant secretary (Mr N. Hulme). He will retire on September 30 after 40 years’ service.

Mr S. Gill, a life member of the English-Speaking Union since 1949 and Canterbury president for many years, has been appointed Dominion president of the union. Mr E. F. Scott has been appointed Dominion secretary. He has been a member of the union since its inception and treasurer for seven years.
