Heating is perhaps seldom considered a technical subject. Yet, studies on heating have yielded a mass of technical data. One such example is a handbook on the Insulation and heating of buildings, which contains information compiled by Dr. Lvndon Bastings, of the Dominion Physical Laboratory of the D.5.1.R., al Lower Hutt. One of the department’s information series, the book discusses basic heating requirements in relation to climate; degree days, which are defined as “a measure of the and magnitude bv which the mean daily temperature out of doors falls short of a specified level below which indoor heating is normally required;” climate; outdoor design temperature; and the basic principles of domestic heating.
