AKAROA COUNTY CLERK
Retirement After 23 Years
Mr A. G. Foreman, who retired on Wednesday as clerk to the Akaroa County Council, had filled that position for 23 years. He had also been a member for many years of the executives of the Institute of Local Body Administrators and of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks, of which he was vicepresident. Mr and Mrs Foreman, who will live in Christchurch, were bidden farewell by present and past councillors, residents, and representatives of organisations with which they have been connected. Born in Glasgow. Mr Foreman served for four years with the Scottish Rifles in the First World War. and after working in a shipping office in Glasgow, came to New Zealand in 1925. He joined the staff of the Ashburton County Council and later became clerk and overseeer to the Mount Hutt Road Board at Methven. In 1938, Mr Foreman became town clerk of Temuka. a position which he held until he became clerk to the Akaroa County Council in January, 1942. Mr Foreman is the only surviving foundation member of the Methven Returned Services’ Association. He has been prominent in the activities of the Banks Peninsula R.S.A., the Akaroa Bowling Club, and the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, of which is a past master.
