City’s 3rd Triumph
Christchurch City last night completed a treble of pre-sea-son soccer competitions when it beat Shamrock, 7-3, in the final of the Rangers' floodlit tournament at McGregors road. City, even without its professlonal centre-half, G. Evans, overwhelmed Shamrock in the first half to lead 8-0 at the interval. It opened the scoring inside three minutes. The loss of C. Whitehead reduced City to 10 men in the second half when Shamrock, came more into the game. The Canterbury right-wing, R. Bruco scored four of City's goals, D. Watson two and J. Barrett put through his own goal. The scorers for Shamrock were A. Westwood town goal), J. Lough and D. Tullett. In the early match for third place, Technical Old Boys surprised by beating Western. 3-2. W. Logan, W. Blows and R. Gow scored for Technical, and D. Torkington and J. Liddell town goal) for Western.
