AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES

Improvement In Prices

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 1. Prices at today’s Geelong wool sales make it appear that the decline in price levels evident over the last few months has been arrested. Compared with yesterday under keen competition, comebacks and crossbreds ruled very firm, with values for Merinos continuing in sellers’ favour to reach the highest level for the series. Chief competition came from Japan, the Continent, United Kingdom and local mills. The selection was 60 per cent comebacks and crossbreds. Sydney Sales Values for practically all descriptions of Merino fleece and skirtings ruled fully firm compared with yesterday's improved levels, at the close of the 15th series of Sydney sales. Strong and widespread competition came from Japan. Eastern Europe, the Continent and the United Kingdom with some support from Australian mills on suitable lines. Good style wools and those free from or carrying light vegetable fault tended in sellers ’favour, while minor irregularities were at times evident for inferior descriptions and those wools carrying excessive vegetable fault.

The market for comeback, crossbred and carding types continued unchanged.
