Big Increase In Deposits

WELLINGTON, April 1
Increased deposits are a feature of figures given by trustee savings banks for the financial year ended yesterday. Deposits in the Bay of Plenty Trustee Savings Bank after 10 months of business stand at £1.820,000. During March, the bank opened 917 accounts at its branches in Rotorua, Tauranga. Mount Maunganui, Te Puke, Whakatane and Taupo. A total of £240,000 was deposited. Deposits in the Westland Savings Bank, established in 1868, yesterday exceeded £1 million for the first time. The Wanganui Savings Bank deposits exceeded £1.5 million for the year, and the Manawatu-Wairarapa Savings Bank has some £1,900,000 in deposits from 5500 accounts.
