FALL FROM BUILDING
Carpenter Injured
A carpenter, John Hirini, of 204 Durham street, suffered a compound fracture of his right leg, when he fell from the City Council parking building at the corner of Gloucester and Manchester streets yesterday. He was taken to Christchurch Hospital by a St. John ambulance and admitted. His condition last evening was satisfactory. Mr Hirini was standing on a trestle platform, 10ft Bin above the ground, with another carpenter, Mr A. FCarr, of 47 Hawdon street. They were putting in boxing between the first and second floor of the partly completed reinforced concrete building. A 4in by 4in length of timber in the platform broke and both men fell on to a heap of rubble. Mr Carr suffered severe shock but was not otherwise injured. Mr Hirini was put in an ambulance on a stretcher. The ambulance was turning in Gloucester street when the tailshaft broke. Another ambulance was called by radio to get Mr Hirini to hospital.
