UNITY IN EUROPE
De Gaulle Unbends (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DUESSELDORF (West Germany), April 1. Chancellor Ludwig Erhard said yesterday that President de Gaulle had indicated he was ready to take part in a conference on European political unity next July.
Although German reservations on the type of political union desired by him will doubtless remain, President de Gaulle’s readiness to take part in high-level meetings will be welcomed as a sign of good will. In Paris, President de Gaulle today made public a list of conditions he said must be met before he would attend a Common Market nation summit meeting on European political unity. He set a June 30 deadline on the conditions. He said he would attend the proposed meeting only if there was full agreement on Common Market farm policy, the conference was preceded by a meeting of foreign ministers, there was advance agreement on the objectives and prospects of success were good.
