MIAMI BEACH (Florida), April 1 William Sinnott, the man who stopped a bullet intended for Franklin D. Roosevelt, has died. Sinnott died at St. Francis Hospital on Monday at the age of 78. On February 15, 1933, Giuseppe Zangara fired at Roosevelt, then the Presi-dent-elect, as he sat in an open car at Miami Beach. One bullet killed the Mayor of Chicago, Mr Anton Cermak.
Sinnott leapt at the gun-
man and took the other bullet in his head. Three other people were wounded before Zangara went down under a swarm of ' police and secret service men. Sinnott, a New York policeman, was a security man assigned to Mr Roosevelt’s headquarters in a New York hotel on election night in 1932. He happened to be in the crowd the day of the shooting, and Mr Roosevelt’s secretary, Mr Marvin Mclntyre, asked him to reinforce the guard around the official car. Zangara was executed for his crime.
