Mushroom-Picking
Sir, —Your article, “Flush of mushrooms draws many pickers,” was not surprising in view of the fact that this has been one of the best mushroom seasons for many years. But Don Grady seems to be condoning the actions of those unthinking citydwellers who fail to ask permission from the farmer on whose land and good humour they trade. They are not content with taking a little something of someone else’s for themselves: they have the audacity to load their cars to the limit with the express purpose of selling that which they themselves cannot consume. This “specially written article” portrays only one glittering side of the story. It does not bother to mention how the goods (mere mushrooms in this case) were obtained; nor does it express the repeated trouble and insolent trespassing with which the farmer continually has to contend.—Yours, etc., KEE POFFORASK. April 1, 1965.
