Colonel H. A. Purcell has been appointed Quartermas-ter-General and military member of the Army Board. He succeeds Major-General W. S. McKinnon, who is now Chief of the General Staff.—(P.A.) Mr K. L. Press, senior trade adviser to the New Zealand High Commissioner in London, was elected vice-chair-man of the contracting parties to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade at its recent session.—(P.A.) Dr. J. P. Kennedy has been appointed director of the Hospitals Division of the Department of Health. He has been deputy-director since 1961.—(P.A.) Mr R. M. D. Johnson, of Mount Torlesse, Springfield, was yesterday re-elected chairman of the management committee of the Tussock Grasslands and Mountain Lands Institute for a further term, and Mr D. McLeod, of Grasmere, was re-elected deputy-chairman. The Christchurch Boys’ High School board yesterday elected Dr. S. C. Peddie chairman, and Mr A. I. R. Jamieson deputy-chairman. Tributes were paid to the retiring chairman (Mr K. A. Gough). Mr M. H. Money, a member of the staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High School for about 10 years, has been appointed head of the English and languages department of the Waitaki Boys’ High School. He will move next term.
THE GLASGOW Education Committee wants travelling expenses to be paid to unemployed young people to enable them to- collect their dole money at the labour exchange.
