WOOL SALE IN SYDNEY
Stronger Tone Evident fN.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 31. There was a much stronger tone when the fifteenth series of wool sales continued in Sydney yesterday and earlier irregularities were no longer evident. Demand from Japan was strong, with good support from the Continent and United Kingdom, and Australian mills on suitable lines. Values for better styled wools showed a hardening tendency, while less attractive wools moved in sellers’ favour for the first time in weeks. Compared with yesterday’s rates, the market for comebacks and crossbreds was fully maintained, and a somewhat better demand was experienced for carding types. Quality ranged from extra strong to medium to fine. There was a limited offering of crossbreds and comebacks, covering a wide range of wools, whilst carding wools were available in fairly substantial quantities. Crossbred prices were: average 58’s light seed, 54Jd; average 60’s, 62}d.
