79-Acre Lakeside Farm Sells For £17,534
Offered on account of Mrs M. A. Gilbert and Mr W. R. Patterson, 79 acres two roods 32 perches of cropping, dairying, and fattening land at Lakeside was sold for £17,534 at public auction on Wednesday by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury. The auctioneer was Mr R. Holland.
Bidding was brisk. After the initial bid of £l4O an acre, there was one bid of £lO, 12 of £5. two of £2 10s, one of £2. and three of £l.
Buildings on the property include a three-bedroomed house, a granary-implement shed, a dairy, and a garage. This season 20 cows were milked, and 23 acres of barley and 22 acres of white clover were harvested. Eight acres of red clover are still to be harvested.
Thirty-six acres seven perches of bare land at Osbornes road. Ladbrooks, was sold by private treaty after being passed in at £7892.
Mr Holland started the bidding at £2OO an acre, and then took eight £lO bids.
The land was offered on account of the estate of Patrick S. Flood. A bungalow at 43 Rutland street, St. Albans, was passed in at £2600. The property was offered on account of the estate of Catherine Strath Kerr by Mr E. G. Keenan. The house has a lounge, a dining room, a sunroom, three bedrooms, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a laundry. Outbuildings on the section of 34 perches include a garage and a shed.
DR. ADENAUER, the for mer German Chancellor, has explained why the Germans are “not loved”* by other nations. “We have become too rich,” he told an audience at a party congress in Dusseldorf. “We must now make a determined attempt to regain good will everywhere. That goes for every German who travels to a foreign country.”
