GRANDSTAND FIRE
(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, March 1. The grandstand at Lansdowne Park, Marlborough’s Rugby headquarters, escaped destruction by fire yesterday afternoon during the Marlborough marching championships. More than 500 people were sitting in the grandstand when officials in the kitchen below smelled smoke. It was difficult to find the source of the fire among the hundreds of people in the stand but when it was found officials put the fire out with buckets of water.
