Anthony John Howard, aged 22, a workman, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court yesterday to a charge of breaking and entering His Lordship’s Hotel on December 19. Mr Justice Macarthur was on the bench. Mr C. M. Roper appeared for the Crown, and Mr L. M. O’Reilly for Howard.
Mr O’Reilly said that the plea was contrary to the instructions he had received from the accused. His Honour said that the plea was quite clear, and convicted and rem; nded Howard in custody for sentence on March 10.
Richard Allan Colvin, aged 20, an apprentice plumber (Mr R. L. Kerr), pleaded not guilty to a charge of sodomy on December 14 but guilty to a charge of indecent assault on the same date. Mr Roper said the charges were alternative counts, and the Crown accepted the plea of guilty on the charge of indecent assault. His Honour then convicted Colvin on this charge and remanded him in custody for sentence on March 10. A woman, whose name was suppressed m the interim, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully using an instrument on January 15 to procure a miscarriage. Mr D. H. His Honour convicted the woman, refused bail, and, because of her medical background, granted interim suppression of name till she is sentenced. He remanded her to March 10 in custody
