Tour By India In 1967-68 Mooted
(By
R. T. BRITTENDEN)
MADRAS, March 1. A tour of New Zealand by India in 1967-68 was mentioned by the Maharajah of Baroda, president of the board of control for cricket in India, at the official welcome last evening to the New Zealand team. He said the tour would have to be linked with a visit to Australia, but he thought the team would be able to go on to New Zealand after finishing the Australian matches. The Maharajah of Baroda
said although it was New Zealand’s second visit to India, his country had yet to visit New Zealand. He said it was a pity that full members of the Imperial Cricket Conference had not exchanged visits. He hoped the New Zealanders would have a pleasant visit and not have tummy troubles which afflicted celebrated teams. As the team had only one correspondent travelling with it, it might account for the lack of tummy troubles.
The West Indies team tn Australia under Sir Frank Worrell and with Benaud had given a further lease of life to cricket. The Maharajah of Ba roda said he thought Indian cricket generally had been inspired by it. Thanking him for the welcome. the New Zealand manager. Mr W. A. Hadlee, said the team was only five days old. If it had shown some deficiencies in some aspects of its cricket they would appreciate that it was a new team and tt hoped to improve. New Zealand was looking forward to the Indian visit.
Mr Hadlee paid tribute to the wav India had played that day The New Zealanders were very impressed by the way the Indians had hit the ball hard. “On this tour we are going to try to hit the ball, too, but if your bowlers are too good for us we will be the first to congratulate you.” Mr Hadlee said
