ROLLESTON AVENUE
Only Ginkgos Revealed
There would be two ginkgo trees among about 20 trees planted in Rolleston avenue in May or June, the chairman of the Christchurch City Council’s reserves committee (Mr P. J. Skellerup) said yesterday. That was all he would say about the kind of trees to be planted there. Mr Skellerup’s committee spent an hour in Rolleston avenue yesterday afternoon, looking at the area and discussing the group planting plan drawn up by the director of parks and reserves (Mr H. J. Gilpin). “We made one or two changes,” said Mr Skellerup, “and the planting plan will be made known to the council at its next meeting on March 17.”
Mr Skellerup said the committee had tried to come up with something aesthetically pleasing, and he thought the plan would appeal to a large section of the public. The committee had taken into account the changes that had taken place in the avenue, including the new Christ’s College building and the new fence along the Botanic Gardens frontage.
