MOUNT ISA DISPUTE
Mackie Drops Position
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, Feb. 28. Mr Pat Mackie has announced he will resign as Mount Isa secretary of the Committee for Membership Control of the Australian Workers’ Union—the only “official” position he holds. He did not make it clear whether the move was intended to ease the way for a solution to the Mount Isa dispute. He said he would remain at Mount Isa until the dispute was settled. The refusal of Mount Isa Mines, Ltd., to bow to union demands that Mr Mackie be re-employed is the last obstacle to a settlement. All other issues have been settled or will be dealt with after work resumes.
