Lunch-Hour Services
A series of lunch-hour services will begin at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Wednesday. They will be the first regular lunch-hour services to be held in the church in recent years.
“A Faith for the City” will be the theme of the seven services during Lent. Each service, lasting 25 minutes, will begin at 12.20 p.m. and 1.20 p.m. each Wednesday until April 14. The Rev. D. Griffiths, of St. Ninian’s, on March 10. The Rev. D. M. Steedman, of Cashmere, on March 17 will speak on “Resurrection: Fact or Fancy?”. The Rev. R. M. Rogers, of St. Andrews, has chosen “After This the Judgment” as his subject on March 24, and on March 31, Sister Alice Swan, of St. Kentigern’s, North Beach, will speak on “The Christian: Self-controlled or spirit driven?”. The service on April 7, “What About the Church?”, will be conducted by the Very Rev. M. W. Wilson, of Knox Church; and the chaplain to Burnham Military Camp (the Rev. A. M. Mushet) will end the series on April 14 with “And the Life Everlasting.” Members of the public are invited to take their lunch with them. Tea, milk and sugar will be provided in the church lounge. Seating will be provided on the lawns and in the lounge. All services will be in the church. The minister of St. Paul’s (the Rev. L. Jones) said: “This Lenten period of services is being conducted as an experiment. If it is successful, regular lunch-hour services will be considered in the church, whose parish is the city.”
