Greymouth Track Slow For West Coast Titles

GREYMOUTH, Feb. 28. 1 A former Greymouth girl. S. : Flynn, was an outstanding per former in the West Coast athletic championships held in Greymouth on Saturday. Aged '. only 15, Miss Flynn, now of the Christchurch Technical Club, . won the junior women s shot ‘ put to create a new West Coast • record. She also easily won the . senior event with a throw that , was half an inch better than • the Canterbury under-17 record, . although this record could not be allowed as she was compel- ' ing in senior competition. C. Warren, of W'estport, ereated a new senior javelin re- ' cord, and J. Power (Christ- . church) was a double winner in i the half-mile and mile events. • Entries were poor for the . events, which were conducted 1 in fine weather before a small 1 crowd and on a slow track. , A thrill-packed 440 yard ; event went to J. Davies. of ■ Christchurch University, in a hairsbreadth finish after the 1 lead had changed five times in 1 the straight. Records in the track events were unlikely because of its slowness, although i a number fell in the field com- : petitions.
