Fire Burns Acre In Forest
A fire which broke out in slash in a salvage area in the Eyrewell State Forest just before 2 p.m. on Saturday burnt about an acre along Browns road. A gang of men working a few chains away noticed the fire when it started, and raised the alarm.
The special fire crew of the New Zealand Forest Service had the blaze under control a few minutes after its arrival. The cause of the outbreak is not known, but officials of the Forest Service are investigating. Patrols were maintained in the area on Saturday night and Sunday.
