RIDER FINED
Westport Inquiry (N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT. After the running of the Robert Paterson Handicap at Westport yesterday B. S. Finlayson. the rider of Dark Seaman. was charged with causing interference to Foxy Boy (E. G. Low), which in turn interfered with Totara Lad (D. N. Hadfield) 2| furlongs from the finish. It was found that Dark Seaman had moved over in front of Foxy Boy, causing Low’s mount to move in and check Totara Lad, which was down on the inside. The committee found the charge proved, but due to the state of the ground at this particular point, the nature of which was shifting, fined Finlayson £lO. K. W. Cribb, the rider of Subair. was warned by the stipendiary steward about the manner in which he rode his mount. After beginning reasonably well Cribb took a firm hold in an endeavour to restrain his mount towards the rear.
However, in doing so, he allowed the field to move quickly away from him until he was five lengths last. He was told that a repetition of such riding tactics would involve him in a charge of incompetent riding.
