Gramel Will Not Go To America
(New Zealand Press Association)
DUNEDIN. “Gramel is one of the family, and with too many commitments at home, there is no chance of her going to America,” said F. A. Jones, the husband of the horse’s owner, at Forbury Park yesterday morning. The South Australian champion is among several horses the visiting Yonkers officials, Messrs M. Tananbaum and 1. Rudd, are interested in for their annual international series.
“If we could fly her over and return within a few months it would not be so bad,” said Mr Jones, who added that it was “pretty hard
to knock back” the opportunity of competing for such large stakes in America.
Other horses Mr Tannanbaum is interested in are Safe Return, Pacing Lawn Junior Royal and Blazing Globe. Mr F. A. Sweetapple, the owner of Pacing Lawn, said that there was every possibility of his horse going to America if invited.
Happy Ending was not seriously hurt when brought down six furlongs from home in the first pacing heat on Saturday night, and will take his place in the second series tomorrow night. Robin Dundee was not harmed by the mixup, her trainer, J. Walsh, said this morning.
White World, which disappointed in the first trotters’ heat—she dropped out over the final three furlongs after pacemaking—on Saturday night, ran a mile in 2min 11 l-ssec at Forbury Park this morning, trotting her last half-mile in Imin ssec and final quarter in 32 4-ssec. The stablemates, Garcon d’Or (J. B. Noble) and Adioway (G. B. Noble) were not asked for a serious effort, working a leisurely two miles in 4min 45sec, the final quarter in 34sec.
